So my lady-friend just received the latest J.Crew catalog and I couldn't help by notice how many females had their mouth partially open, a pose I assume is supposed to be seductive. (It just looks odd to me.) So I ran some numbers on closed- and open-mouthed models in the latest catalog:
FEMALE
Total Pictures: 60
Open mouth: 53
Closed: 7
MEN:
Total pictures: 13
Open mouth: 1
Closed: 12
Out of the 7 shots where the female model has her mouth closed, 5 are of a black woman and 2 are of a white woman. And I found it notable that in the picture where the lips seem the most consciously pursed, the model is displaying the "The Gingham SchoolBOY Blazer."
The numbers above do not take into account the Bridal section, which interestingly enough is quite the opposite for females:
Total pictures: 21
Open mouth: 8
Closed: 13
It's in the group bridesmaids photos where we see the most lip lock.
Anyone feel like taking the next step toward inference, given these numbers?
